Surein Foundation Celebrates Its 8th Anniversary Talk and Presentation Ceremony

On Saturday, 31 January 2026, Surein Foundation held its 8th Anniversary Talk and Presentation Ceremony at ‘The Victoria’ Empire Centre, 68 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. The occasion reaffirmed the Foundation’s continued commitment to promoting environmental education and sustainable development.

The Foundation was honoured to welcome Legislative Council Member and Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee, Ir the Hon. Chan Siu-hung, BBS, JP, and Mrs. Chan as the officiating guests. Mr. Chan delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Clean Energy Transportation in Hong Kong’, in which he shared his insights into the development of smart green transport and the city’s ongoing energy transition.

In his speech, Mr. Chan highlighted that for Hong Kong to achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2050, three key areas must be actively addressed, namely energy efficiency in buildings, waste reduction across the community, and the promotion of green transport. He noted that the transport sector is currently the second largest source of carbon emissions in Hong Kong, therefore plays an important role in the city’s decarbonisation efforts.

Mr. Chan further emphasised that environmental protection and green living are both attainable through the effective application of technology. He explained that initiatives such as autonomous vehicles, smart highway pilot schemes and intelligent traffic signal control systems can make use of big data and artificial intelligence to ease traffic congestion. These measures, he said, not only improve transport efficiency but also help to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, thereby supporting long-term sustainable urban development.

Following the talk, the Presentation Ceremony was held, during which scholarships and certificates were presented to 102 awardees of the ‘environmental education competitions 2025’. The award recipients included participants from tertiary institutions, secondary schools, primary schools and the public. Their winning entries demonstrated a high level of creativity and a strong awareness of environmental issues, reflecting the positive impact of the Foundation’s ongoing environmental education initiatives.
