Surein Foundation “Eco Living Competition” 2026. Judging Concluded. -- 400 Entries Competed for Awards
(10 October 2026) The judging phase of the 2026 “Eco‑Living Competitions”, organised by Surein Foundation and co‑organised by Yuen Long Town Hall and Y’s Men Club of NW, was held last Saturday at Yuen Long Town Hall.
“A total of 400 entries were received this year across the Photography, Calligraphy, Quiz and Slogan Creation competitions sectors, submitted by 88 primary and secondary schools after the summer vacation”. Reported by Dr Ernest Lee, Director of Surein Foundation.
The competition aims to promote eco‑friendly lifestyles and sustainable development through diverse artistic media. Adjudication took place in two stages: preliminary screening and final adjudication. In the preliminary round, entries were vetted by secretariat staff of Surein Foundation. Shortlisted works were scored by respective panel judges according to assessment criteria provided, to select outstanding pieces. In case of tied scores, the final decision rests with the Directors of Surein Foundation.
The jury panel consists of twelve distinguished community representatives from the cultural‑artistic, education and public‑service sectors, who selected winning entries from multiple perspectives drawing on their rich experience and professional insight.
Allocation of responsibilities is as follows:
(a) Eco‑Living Photography Competition: Mr Chan Yuan‑wah Alex, BBS, JP, Mr Fung Sau‑yu, Mr Law Ting‑ming, Dr Sunny Lam.
(b) Eco‑Living Calligraphy Competition: Ms Patricia Wong, lawyer; Mr Li Shing‑pak, BBS; Ms Selina Chan; Ms Mui Yuk‑ling, Chinese calligraphy teacher,
(c) Mr James Kong, MH, JP, Mrs Karen Yau, Mr Leung King‑fuk, Ms Vivian Leung Mei Shan.
Judges assessed entries against multiple criteria including contents, creativity, technical skills and environmental messaging. Master photographer Law Ting‑ming said he would pay particular attention to themes reflecting local eco‑living. For tied scores, works featuring Hong Kong scenery would receive priority consideration. Teacher Mui Yuk‑ling evaluated calligraphy entries for fluency, brushwork and character formation, while also checking for correct writings of the characters. Mr James Kong and Mr Leung King‑fuk noted that some entries appeared to have been treated by artificial intelligence, yet the goal of promoting eco‑living was not undermined. A director of Surein Foundation commented that artificial intelligence is already part of modern life, so societal integration warrants further discussion.
Results of the 2026 competitions will be announced to award recipients in due course. Outstanding entries will be exhibited publicly in two phases: the first exhibition will be held at Yuen Long Town Hall, and the second phase, at the H6 gallery, The Center, Central. Please stay tuned for details of date and venue. (End)
