“Surein Foundation Distinguished Seminar Series in Geography and Sustainable Development 2026” Concluded Successfully

Surein Foundation Distinguished Seminar Series in Geography and Sustainable Development 2026 was successfully held in the morning of 4 May 2026 at the University of Hong Kong. The seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, with both physical and online participation, and attracted approximately 50 participants.
The seminar was honoured to welcome Professor Edouard Davin from the Wyss Academy for Nature at the University of Bern, Switzerland, as the keynote speaker. His talk, entitled “How can sustainable land use, ecosystem protection and restoration help to meet global climate and biodiversity goals”, explored the role of sustainable land use, ecosystem protection and restoration in addressing global climate change and biodiversity challenges through various data-driven modelling approaches using.
Drawing on case studies from regions including Switzerland, Peru, Kenya and Thailand, and covering diverse climates, topographies, soils and vegetation, Professor Davin illustrated how integrated environmental strategies could provide effective solutions to advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Both in-person and online participants engaged actively, with a lively and enthusiastic question-and-answer session.
Before the conclusion of the seminar, directors of Surein Foundation invited Dr. Liu Laibao, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, the University of Hong Kong, to present a certificate of appreciation to Professor Davin on behalf of the Foundation, in recognition of his valuable sharing and his contributions to advancing research in geography and sustainable development.
